Hey — We’ve Got BIG News… The Spring Gala is on! View this email in your browser
What does the word “media” mean today? For the past thirty years, this new thing called “the internet” has provided a web of networked devices that have rapidly enhanced — and some would say damaged — the nature of how we communicate and connect. The NYC Media Lab seeks to explore and highlight the rapid changes in media, and in doing so, give us insight into where we may be headed.
To do that, we’re proud to be honoring three extraordinary media leaders with our first annual Spring Gala on May 24th at the Rubin Museum in Manhattan.
At the Gala, we are excited to honor three deserving individuals — with an evening hosted by the The host of the Pivot Podcast — NYU Professor Scott Galloway — Prof G to his friends and fans.
Meredith Kopit Levien has navigated The New York Times through a period of economic uncertainty. As newspapers are in decline, Kopit Levien has strategically created a growing business, adding subscription offerings and a growing audience of readers who find The New York Times as “journalism worth paying for.”
Jerelyn Rodriguez has built a sustainable and impactful institution in The Knowledge House, a free teaching institution for a new generation of young technologists, entrepreneurs, and digital leaders, who will uplift their communities out of poverty and into the emerging media and technology landscape.
Brewster Kahle, through his groundbreaking work at the Internet Archive and the WayBack Machine, has fiercely protected the digital data that is our collective history.Kahle says the future is a distributed web, Web3, and he’s fighting for that future.
Together these three exceptional honorees create a diverse view of the emerging media landscape. Past, Present, and Future.
Tickets and Tables are going fast for special night, and we hope you’ll join us. We have tickets sponsors, not-for-profits, and students, so email membership@nycmedialab.org and we’ll get you ticket information ASAP.
We hope you’ll join us!
