STAY TUNED: Data Privacy Challenge Finalists to Be Announced

A big thank you to everyone who submitted applications to our NYCML x Consumer Reports Data Privacy Prototyping Challenge! We received several thought-provoking submissions and we look forward to reaching out to finalists in the coming weeks.

And of course, stay tuned for updates on how these select university teams plan to make privacy policies and terms of service more useful to the average consumer. Head to our website to learn more about this Challenge. DEMO DAY: ASCAP Music & Design Challenge Crescendos in August 2020

During the summer months, select graduate student teams have been working closely with mentors and partners from ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) to develop, build, and test prototypes that might unlock new ways we create and experience music.

How might we reimagine the keyboard in new digital mediums? How will emerging tech open new pathways for collaborative composition? How can we experience music through an accessibility lens? We look forward to answering these questions and many more when the NYCML x ASCAP Music & Design Challenge concludes in a Virtual Demo Day in August 2020.

VIRTUAL EVENTS ICYMI: Machines + Media Ep. 1 Premiered on June 30

Bloomberg senior executive editor Chris Collins kicked off our virtual summer series with media experts Noelle Silver, Charlie Beckett, and Vivian Schiller.

The esteemed panel discussed the hype around AI in newsrooms and production studios — a hot topic for many years, with the long-discussed technology promising to change the way media is produced, distributed, consumed, and monetized. We asked: Are these applications actually helping or hindering journalists as they cope with an unprecedented scale of information, all while their normal practices are disrupted by working remotely?
