email@example.com NEW & NOTEWORTHY Register for Our Feb 2nd Event: Reality+ from the Matrix to the Metaverse
Join NYC Media Lab for our FREE virtual event, “Reality+ from the Matrix to the Metaverse” with author and philosopher David Chalmers on February 2nd from 11am-12pm ET.
In a highly original work of “technophilosophy,” David Chalmers gives a compelling analysis of our technological future in his book, Reality+. He argues that virtual worlds are not second-class worlds, and that we can live a meaningful life in virtual reality.
Along the way, Chalmers conducts a grand tour of big ideas in philosophy and science. He uses VR technology to offer a new perspective on long-established philosophical questions, such as how do we know that there’s an external world? What is the nature of reality? How can we lead a good life? All of these questions are illuminated or transformed by Chalmers’s mind-bending analysis.
Studded with illustrations that bring philosophical issues to life, Reality+ is a major statement that will shape discussion of philosophy, science, and technology for years to come.
Chalmers will discuss several aspects of his just-released book with NYC Media Lab Executive Director Steven Rosenbaum before taking live questions from the virtual audience. Register now and join the conversation on social using #DavidChalmers.
Apply Now! NYC Media Lab & ASCAP Challenge: Music in the Metaverse
As the world embraced virtual/digital experiences during the pandemic, platforms such as Twitch, Fortnite, Decentraland, and Facebook’s Meta increasingly reflected emerging capabilities in entertainment, events, and commerce. In response to this emerging opportunity, ASCAP and NYC Media Lab have teamed up once again to launch the Music in the Metaverse Challenge, which is designed to identify creative, cutting-edge concepts at the intersection of music and the metaverse.
For this challenge, we’re seeking startup and university teams to explore new ways to create and experience music, experience digital identity through music, and connect music creators and fans in the metaverse.
