1) Synthetic Media & Exploring the Future of Storytelling Challenge
We’re calling on teams to help us explore and experiment with storytelling & machine learning, GANs, computer vision, and other creative tech!
Deadline: Sunday, January 31st at 11:59PM ET

Program Launch: Early March 2021
In partnership with one of NYC Media Lab’s corporate partners, this semester-long program is seeking teams to build and demonstrate how ML tools like GANs open up new ways of storytelling.
We’re looking for projects that showcase how algorithmically-generated content is reshaping storytelling in some way. By the end of the spring semester, participating teams are expected to demonstrate a piece of creative content that could be leveraged in an innovative creative campaign or marketing experience.
Selected teams will be awarded with a grant of up to $5,000. At least one member of the team must be university-affiliated as a current student or faculty member.

2) NYC Media Lab x ASCAP: Immersive Music Studio Challenge
Startups & University Teams: We’re looking for imaginative, big ideas that explore new ways artists can create music, connect with their fans, and reimagine how we interact with music and sound!

Program Launch: Late March 2021
Immersive and spatial technologies, from games and holograms to live concerts and AR, are unlocking new ways of interacting with, composing, and experiencing music. How can we reimagine the experience of music and sound using a range of emerging technologies? We’re open to projects in spatial audio, AR, VR, GANs, LiDAR, etc.
We’re seeking projects and ideas from startups and graduate-level university-affiliated teams. Participating teams will pitch, build, and prototype a product over the course of the 12-week program in close collaboration with the ASCAP Lab and NYC Media Lab team.
Selected teams will be awarded with a grant of up to $5,000 per semester.

3) NYC Media Lab x The New York Times R&D: NLP & Computer Vision in Journalism
NYC Media Lab & The New York Times R&D team are seeking graduate-level university researchers to explore applications of natural language processing and computer vision in journalism.
Selected researchers will work closely with members of The New York Times R&D team in semester-long research projects throughout 2021. Selected researchers will be awarded with a grant of up to $5,000 per semester.
Deadline: Rolling. Applications are reviewed on a semester by semester basis.
